As a result of this deficient practice, two residents (Resident (R) 2, and R6) were at risk of being given an expired medication. Findings Include: 1. During an observation of the Lehua Unit Medication Storage Cart on [DATE] at 09:45 AM, an expired medication bottle of [MEDICATION NAME] was revealed in the storage drawer. This medication belonged to R6, and the label read [MEDICATION NAME] 160 mg/5 ml [MEDICATION NAME], discard after ,[DATE]. 2. During an observation of the Lehua Unit Medication Storage Cart, on [DATE] at 09:46 AM, an expired medication [MEDICATION NAME] was revealed in the storage drawer. This medication belonged to R2, and the label read [MEDICATION NAME] Oral Suspension 40 mg/5 ml, discard after [DATE]. On [DATE] at 09:45 AM, RN57 acknowledged that both medications were expired and should have been removed. According to facility policy on Outdated and Unusable Drugs, it stated All outdated drugs, contaminated drugs shall be returned to the Pharmacy Department for proper disposal. | 2020-09-01 |
